“Strengthening Emergency Services Capability Across the Kimberley”
Crothers Construction is awarded the delivery of the Kimberley District Support Facility in Broome for the Department of Finance and the Western Australia Police Force. As the first facility in a new generation of WA Police infrastructure, the project is designed to alleviate accommodation pressures within existing police stations by relocating non-public-facing operational units while providing additional capacity to support emergency response and critical operations across the Kimberley region.
Located on Rubibi, Yawuru Country, within a residential area of Broome, the facility has been carefully integrated into its surrounding context. Inspired by the Kimberley landscape, the design incorporates natural materials, earthy tones, and sculptural forms that respond to the region’s unique environment, creating a contemporary building that is both functional and connected to place.
Balancing operational, security, and privacy requirements with community sensitivity, the facility will maintain a residential scale through considered landscaping, layered screening, and architectural detailing. The project demonstrates a successful collaboration between stakeholders, delivering a highly functional and enduring facility that strengthens the WA Police Force’s presence and operational capability within the Kimberley community.
