Completed in 2026, Crothers Construction successfully delivered the $11.7 million Gibbon Habitat at Perth Zoo,
providing a contemporary, purpose-built enclosure for critically endangered gibbons while enhancing the visitor
experience within the zoo's primate precinct.
The project featured an elevated, three-dimensional habitat designed to maximise vertical movement, incorporating a
14-metre viewing tower and an extensive network of interconnected rope pathways. This innovative environment
enables the gibbons to move naturally across significant distances above ground, supporting improved animal welfare
and enrichment outcomes.
Located adjacent to the zoo's main entrance, the enclosure was carefully integrated with existing public pathways and
viewing areas to provide visitors with clear sightlines of the animals in motion. The design balances animal wellbeing
with visitor engagement, creating an immersive experience that highlights the gibbons' natural agility within a carefully
managed environment.
As part of Perth Zoo's broader redevelopment program, the project contributes to enhanced visitor facilities and
