Hayloft residential aged care facility in Juniper is a 100 bed development, within an outer suburban, semi- rural part of Gosnells. The site for the facility, previously a horse paddock, backs on to a protected wetland area that provides a valuable visual amenity to the development. The facility is spread over 2 levels with the ground floor designed to be dedicated to dementia residents. A multipurpose training/ chapel space provided for the facility is accessed off a generous light filled lobby designed to provide opportunity for community engagement.

The built form has been based upon a semi-rural vernacular with larger, over sailing pitched roofs and a material selection with reference to both a rural house and shed, using combination of face brick, rammed earth, timber and metal sheeting. Internally the project has been designed to reflect a home-like environment wherever possible, to instill a sense of familiarity, well-being and calm. Materials, lighting and spaces have been designed for intimacy and familiarity with a smaller lounge/ rest spaces spread throughout the facility.

The facility enjoys extensive visual and physical connection to the outdoors for all residents, visitors and staff via a network of specifically designed dementia courtyards, walking trails and first floor terraces - including a multi-level playground for visiting families.
